I stole yet another YouTube piece of my past from Josiah Roe's blog. This was the Catacombs Superhero Battle Skit of 2001.
Just a few things about this skit by the way:
1) After a few years of reflection, I have to agree with Josiah that this was indeed the best superhero skit I was ever a part of. Despite the fact that I credit myself on the video as the playwright, the skit was truly the most collaborative hall skit I remember working on. Everybody had great ideas, and everybody worked together to make it happen, from coming up with great costumes to digging up old lawnmowers and toilet seats in St. Elmo that we could destroy.
2) The skit is just raw. All of the skits after this one have been more elaborate with more comlex plots. But this skit was just raw and unharnessed from the get-go. The fight goes on a really long time and it still looks really great. And I love how more and more people keep coming in until the stage is just littered with madness.
3) My speech at the beginning is way too long. I realize this. But I was trying to give the guys backstage time to set up. But I gave them too much time. I think they started to get bored. Also, this was my first time doing anything in front of a Covenant audience, so as you can tell Im really nervous. My shaking hands and voice are for real.
4) Dont miss Bill Higgins the campus electrician shooting live fireballs into the air! You can see them!
5) Weve never really ended a skit quite this well in my memory. Fernando giving birth on stage to the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey was just so overtop; to the point that I think some of the girls in the audience got truly frightened. I hope every year from now until the end of time Catacombs will aspire to end their skits with this kind of sheer chaos.
6) I apologize sincerely to all of my fellow Catacombians for breaking the rod of justice. I got a little carried away.
7) I still think the sight of Andy as the ugly red-headed stepchild jumping spread eagle off the fridge is one of the funniest moments in any superhero battle skit that Ive seen.
