I am recovering from a long afternoon of grading. Tonight I will be attending a banquet for our juniors and seniors. I have a long weekend in front of me with pretty much constant activity. So who knows when I will get a chance to see the 5th season finale of Smallville.
If I may say, Smallville's 5th season has by far been the best. Though never Emmy-worthy material, the writing is a lot tighter and a heck of a whole lot more consistent. And this season has just been crammed pack full of eventful stuff: Braniac, General Zod, Jor-El, Aquaman, the death of Jonathon Kent, Clark's own personal death and resurrection in the Fortress of Solitude, Lex's turn to the darkside, Lana's turn to the darkside (I'll take anything that keeps her away from Clark), and Chloe's incredible character development as she has evolved into a full-fledged wiz journalist for the Daily Planet (under the editorial leadership of Carrie Fisher!), helping Clark to fight crime on a weekly basis. Ive pretty much liked every episode this season with the exception of maybe one or two misfires. The whole season has made just massive improvements on the shows whole concept.
And for the finale, we can expect an evil Lex with superpowers granted to him by Braniac, a catastrophic event that for the first time on Smallville will actually threaten the entire world, the return of General Zod from the Phantom Zone (think Superman II), and a truly fateful decision that will forever change Clark's destiny. So keep an eye out! Zod is coming.
