Reading Archives

In other thoughts, I have been reading through the archives of Josiah Q. Roe's blog lately and I have been finding it to be an interesting read. The great thing about blogging for those who are good at it like Josiah is the way it records faith, culture, politics, community, literature, etc., not as philosophical abstractions but as an organic expression of a "lived" life. All the random thoughts that Josiah has written down and all the debates that he has hosted and all the updates and quips that he has provided for close to three years now really begin to have a fascinating "biographical" shape to them when you read through them sequentially. And not just of his own life but of the lives that have shared in his. I guess I just have an increased respect for the "blogosphere" and for the legacy it leaves behind. I mean, imagine if we had that kind of access into the archived thoughts and expressions of our parents. Its really difficult to imagine. And yet, theoretically, Josiah's kids will be able to read this stuff someday. The possibilities never really struck me before. So Josiah, if you are reading this, know that I am currently reading your partial biography and I am enjoying it.
